ABout the Halsey band program
Junior High School 157Q, Stephen A. Halsey, has a strong tradition of musical excellence. About 250 students in grades 6-9 participate in band each year. All students are provided school instruments, despite economic background. Sixth graders come to the Halsey band program with no instrumental experience. Advanced students are invited to join the Halsey Symphonic Band. In May 2014, the Symphonic Band was awarded a NYSSMA Major Organizations Gold Award. Advanced students may also join Jazz Band to learn more styles of music. Finally, the Halsey Jazz & Modern Band will officially begin in January, 2023.
